Studying for the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) can be challenging. Many apps are claiming to help achieve higher scores. These apps have the highest reviews and most installs out of all Apps out there. Read on to discover which Apps will be right for you and help on your journey to achieving the highest possible score on the ASVAB!

The 5 Best Apps to Study for ASVAB

The ASVAB can be challenging. With nine different areas to cover, it can be challenging to choose which study materials will be the best. Subjects like Word Knowledge, Arithmetic Reasoning, Mathematics Knowledge, and Paragraph Reasoning are hard to study for on the best of days. Since all military branches use these scores to determine eligibility for service, you’ll want to focus the majority of your studies in these areas. The best apps also have an extensive focus on the ASVAB job-specific areas, like Mechanical Comprehension, General Science, Automotive and Shop Information, Electronics Information, and Assembling Objects.

The apps can all be found on Google Play or Apple App Store and are compatible with all devices. So, no matter what you use—phone, tablet, or computer—your study materials will be accessible anytime or anywhere.

Each app review is broken down into four categories:

  • General Statistics
  • Reviews
  • Ease of use
  • Special Features
  • Negatives

ASVAB Flashcards by iAceATest Inc

At number seven is ASVAB Flashcards by iAceATEST Inc. This study tool isn’t just your average practice test and questions App. It utilizes electronic flashcards with information on each subject area needed to pass the AFQT and the separate job qualification portions of the test.

  • General. Google Play boasts a 100,000 plus number of downloads. The company has kept up with updating versions and generally fixes any bugs right away. It’s relatively new on Apple, so not as much download information. There are in-app purchases. Be prepared to pay anywhere from $4.99 to $14.99 for more extensive use.
  • Reviews. This app scored a 4.3 out of 5 stars, with a total of 648 people reviewing. Many reviewers stated they liked the format and that the materials weren’t just a practice test with minimal questions. It dug deep into content that helped them better study for the test. One reviewer even claimed their AFQT score went from a 36 to a 72.
  • Ease of Use. Early on, this app crashed and had a few bugs, but the creators fixed those quickly. It now runs smoothly from all your devices!
  • Special Features. Some of the basic features included with this free app are being able to track study progress, play games with flashcards for better comprehension, and view thousands of flashcards on the various subject areas of the ASVAB. Premium paid features include a text to speech feature and unlimited flashcards for off-line use.
  • Negatives. The cost for premium use can be around $4.99 a month while other apps offer more practice (read on for some of those) for free. It still is relatively new, so there are still bugs being worked out.

This app made the list due to the novelty of using flashcards for learning, a proven memorization technique for studying.

ASVAB Practice Test 2020 by Clanelite Technologies

Clanelite Technologies offers many different educational and study apps for other government areas, all with reliable reviews. Their study materials for the ASVAB are no different. For study materials that come from a company with experience, this app will give you all you need.

  • General. The app created by this company for the ASVAB is very new, the release date states June 2020, and yet they have over 10,000 downloads. So far, they have a 4.7 out of 5-star rating with 202 reviews, quite a lot after only being out for a few months. This app has in-app purchases and does contain ads.
  • Reviews. Some of the reviewers call this the best app to study the ASVAB, hands down. People love that it teaches you the steps to some problems instead of just giving the answers. The majority of the reviews are positive; the few with a negative review have to do with some ad content interrupting learning.
  • Ease of Use. Don’t live in an area with spotty internet! It doesn’t have an off-line option, so all work needs to be completed online. It can be used on all devices with paid and unpaid options.
  • Special Features. Personalized tests, detailed explanations, leveled learning, and daily reminders all make up for this app’s unique features.
  • Negatives. As mentioned above, it doesn’t have an off-line option, so you’ll always need wi-fi access, and you can only receive more questions through the paid feature of $3.99 a month.

This company’s app made the list for the number of reliable reviews and how many purchases in a short amount of time.

ASVAB AFQT Test Pro 2020 by EstudyMe Studio

This is another solid offering for the 2020 study and test-taking window. It has many of the different study materials as the top-two apps but is more cost-effective. It also may not offer as many materials or some of the supports the first two do, though it has fantastic practice questions to get a feel for the ASVAB.

  • General. It has a 4.7 out of 5 stars from 500 reviewers. Those that used this app tended to love it, and it met their study needs.
  • Reviews. Many reviewers felt this app was good for those who just needed to review the different subjects on the ASVAB. It offered explanations for many of the test questions.
  • Ease of Use. This app is simple and easy to use on all devices.
  • Special Features. This app supports off-line use for ease of study anywhere. It has a text-to-speech feature, dictionary, and detailed analysis of your practice data.
  • Negatives. Some of the ads can interrupt the user’s concentration, and it doesn’t have quite as many questions as the apps in the top two spots.
The 5 Best Apps to Study for ASVAB

This app is a cost-effective option for users who need a useful study tool without spending as much money.

ASVAB Pocket Prep by Pocket Prep Inc

Pocket Prep created a solid app in this study guide. Multi-functional and able to be used online and on phones and tablets, this tool will help you study and give you a simulated exam. All-powerful tools while practicing for the ASVAB. You can also sign up at www.pocketpreps/exams/asvab

  • General. This app doesn’t have as much traction yet on Apple App Store, so it didn’t score as high on our list. On Google Play, it scored 4.3 out of 5 stars from 1800 users. It’s a solid program, though it doesn’t hold as many test practice items as the number one app. It does have an in-app purchase cost from $10-20.
  • Reviews. Reviewers liked the simulated exam and found the explanations helpful. Negative comments tended toward the cost and not many free practice questions. Most found it useful.
  • Ease of Use. The app is very intuitive and helps users through all steps.
  • Special Features. This app features a study mode and a simulator mode, which is unique. They offer email support, detailed analysis of practice questions, and in-app messaging.
  • Negatives. There were some bugs that the company worked hard to fix. Some of the cost can be prohibitive to some candidates.

As with the top applications, costs are slightly higher than the other apps. This usually indicates quality and more practice items with several of these apps, so not necessarily a negative if you can afford it. Look at it as an investment in your future, and the higher your score, the better your job opportunities will be!

Higher Learning Technologies (HLT) App for ASVAB, AFQT, and individual Apps for each military branch, including ASVAB for Dummies created by HLT.

Not only does our number one company and app have individual apps for tests on the AFQT, but also all the subtests and each branch of the military. For this reason, the HLT App far exceeds all the other apps in access and individualized tailoring of needs. The app can be used on phones, tablets, and the computer. If you sign up through their website, they offer live support and try to help each test-taker along the way. Below you’ll find a quick review of each of the apps provided by HLT to help you on your journey to be successful on the ASVAB, including ASVAB for Dummies online version.

ASVAB AFQT Mastery and Individual Military Branch Mastery Apps

  • General. The star rating is lower than what you would expect at 4.2 out of 5.0 stars on Google Play with over 2,000 reviews. Most of the lower-rated reviews have to do with the cost. Quality sometimes costs a little more, and they will work with candidates on pricing options if you call their customer service hotline. On Apple App Store, it rated a 4.8 out of 5 stars with over 4,500 reviews. It is the most extensively reviewed ASVAB app out there. One month of access is $12.99, and a full twelve months costs $39.99.
  • Reviews. All the positive reviews claim a 10-20 point increase on their AFQT score. They love that it gives you every single tool you’ll need to be successful and encourages everybody who wants to pass with a high AFQT and be satisfied with their job opportunities, put the money in, and buy this app.
  • Ease of Use. Very easy to use. From the account log-in to taking each of the practice tests. The pre-test is free, but you’ll need to pay for all the practice questions. It is well worth it. The program will automatically create study and explanation models based on your pre-test.
  • Special Features. The AFQT’s premium features offer over sixty math video lessons, high-level review and in-depth explanations of all tests and subtests, and tracking of all data you’ll need to improve all your scores further.
  • Negatives. Not necessarily negative, but the cost can be prohibitive to some people.

ASVAB for Dummies

Though the For Dummies corporation is its own individual entity, HLT created an app with the no-nonsense features the For Dummies books and media are so popular for.

  • General. It’s the same general platform as the other HLT apps with a For Dummies tilt. It scored a 4.3 out of 5 stars on Google Play and 4.7 stars out of 5 on Apple App Store from over 8,000 reviewers. It, too, has thousands of reviews. One perk is the app is slightly less expensive with fewer questions and features but the same stellar customer support and quality materials.
  • Reviews. Most of the reviewers love the app, and it helped them achieve their goals for military service. The few negative reviews are about the cost of the app.
  • Ease of Use. Same as the above HLT apps. They have ease of use down to a science.
  • Special Features. HLT has developed videos, flashcards, and other study materials to help you score high on all portions of the ASVAB.
  • Negatives. As before, the cost can be challenging for some.

For many, the need for high-quality study materials could mean the difference between low and high AFQT and ASVAB scores. HLT offers many avenues of access to their apps and even specializations within each branch of the military.

Do you want a high score and better job opportunities in the military? Studying is the key to success. Whichever app you choose, remember to start studying well in advance and always take a pre-test to see which tests and subtests will need to be areas of focus. Good luck!
